Take two down-on-their-luck English Shakespearian actors, add a wealthy old lady searching for long-lost relatives, her beautiful niece, an assortment of small-town characters, Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, shake well, and you have Leading Ladies by Ken Ludwig (Moon Over Buffalo, Lend Me A Tenor). Leo Clark and Jack Gable are reduced to playing the lodge circuit with their “Scenes from Shakespeare” when Leo launches a desperate plan to pass as a dying woman’s relatives in order to get a sizeable share of her estate. When they discover the long-lost relatives are actually women, they call upon all their acting skills to present themselves as “Maxine” and “Stephanie”.
