Productions Coming Soon: Details
Description: Written in 1898, George Bernard Shaw’s Candida is a fast moving play of ideas. The story centers on Candida, the wife of a Christian Socialist minister, who tests the limits of her marriage as she entertains the eager affections of a young poet. Shaw’s play pits the status quo squarely against the ever-emerging change that comes with each new generation. The play took off in 1904 New York and caused a phenomenon referred to as ‘Candida-mania’. The questions of what a man needs and expects from a woman and the right of a woman to address her own needs ring as loudly today as they did 100 years ago. Delivering genius wit and great insight, this play is, by every standard, a treasure.
